About the Role
We are seeking a skilled grounds and maintenance officer with a passion for supporting a safe and comfortable environment to to join our team. Working as part of the Middle Swan Residential Care Team, this role is key in ensuring our facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for our residents.
As a Grounds and Maintenance Officer, you’ll be responsible for day-to-day repairs, regular inspections, gardening works, and promptly addressing facility needs to support the smooth operation of our care home. We’re looking for someone skilled, dedicated, and with a positive, “can-do” attitude to help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for our residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including repairs to buildings, equipment, and facilities.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and address maintenance needs.
- Undertake gardening duties, including pruning, weeding, lawn mowing, fertilising, and basic irrigation repairs to maintain outdoor areas.
- Ensure gardens and outdoor spaces are well-presented and safe for residents, staff, and visitors.
- Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance when required.
- Ensure all maintenance activities are completed in a timely manner with minimal disruption to residents.
- Maintain records of maintenance work, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
What we're looking for:
- Experience in a maintenance role, ideally within aged care or a similar environment.
- Knowledge of building systems (e.g. air conditioning, plumbing, electrical, and general repairs)
- Basic gardening and groundskeeping experience, including lawn care and irrigation maintenance.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly in an aged care setting.
- Good communication skills and a friendly, approachable demeanor.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate maintenance-related vehicles and equipment.
- Relevant trade qualifications (desirable).
